The Mass of the Resurrection celebrating the life of Paula Jo Smeltzer took place on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Family, childhood neighbors and numerous colleagues and friends from Saginaw, MI gathered to grieve and remember the many gifts that Paula so generously shared with others. A native of Monroe, Paula was the only child of Karen (Savage) and James (d. 1994) Smeltzer. Her teaching career in both Arizona and at White Pine Middle School in Saginaw brought Paula much joy and fulfillment. It was not only her teaching, but the investment of her time in caring for students that impacted many lives. She was the cheerleader that so many students needed in their budding lives. Paula valued the gift of her family as well. She maintained and nurtured a loving relationship with her mother, Karen. Along with her husband of nearly 32 years, Todd Rinnes, she embraced the gift of life; attending MSU games, travelling and playing board games with family and friends! St. Mary Parish extends its sympathy and promise of continued prayerful support to Karen and Todd, as well as her many aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins and nieces and nephews. May the hope of the Resurrection comfort you and give you peace in the coming days.
