The immediate family of Gay Jean Criscio gathered on Friday, December 4, 2020, to celebrate God’s faithful love and her new and eternal life. Baptized in the Lutheran faith, Gay entered the Catholic Church through the process of RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). She took seriously the command of Jesus: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations. . . . . teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 18:19-20). She served the Church in many ways: as chairperson of the St. Mary Parish Pastoral Council, as a member of the RCIA team, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist at weekly masses, and brought Holy Communion to the sick as well. With a missionary spirit, she did not shy away from knocking on the doors of inactive Catholics, inviting them back to an active life in the Church. Gay worked for DuPont for forty years beginning as a secretary and retiring from the Human Resources division. She was often sent to inform employees of closing plants that their job would be ending. Her calm, patient, and steady nature were God-given gifts that allowed her to compassionately bring bad news to her co-workers. Gay’s many friendships were life-long. She stayed close, vacationed with, and met regularly with them until her unexpected death. Her family characterized Gay as the “rock of the family” who generously shared her time and resources. She enjoyed spending extended periods of time with them in Florida and Michigan. Their shared time and memories were highlights in her life. St. Mary Parish extends its sympathy and continuing prayerful support to Gay’s family; Her brother Kenneth; her nieces, Nettie Criscio, Megan Ivey, Sharon Alford, and her great-nieces and nephews: Ella Elijah, Kieran, Cormac, Grace, Nathaniel, and Nora. May the hope and promise of the Resurrection give you peace in the coming days and weeks as you mourn Gay’s death.
