The life and witness of Dr. John Walter Kuras was celebrated when his family and friends gathered recently for the Mass of the Resurrection. John was an optimistic person and had chosen the title “Anything’s Possible” for a book that he had hoped to write and would have described his life. As a result of the injuries he suffered in an accident as a toddler, John walked with a noticeable limp for his entire life. While he could not excel in sports, Dr. Kuras stood out academically and professionally. Not able to be an active member of the military, John donated time in Detroit and Chicago for Navy seamen who needed dental work. Additionally, he worked as a dentist for thirty-eight years and was instrumental in helping to develop and improve dental implants. Following his retirement, he lived for several years in Sebastian, Florida. During this time his devout faith defined much of his life.: praying the rosary prior to Sunday Mass, as well as his involvement in the St. Vincent De Paul Society and seventy years as a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He also helped to solicit donations to build St. Sebastian Church in Florida. He could not say “no” to requests for help. To John’s family, his sons, Dr. Terry, Doug, Kelly and his daughter, Kim; his grandson, Nolan; great-granddaughter, Bella; his daughter-in-law, Carie, and his many nieces and nephews, St. Mary Parish extends its sympathy and the promise of our continuing prayer. May the hope and promise of the resurrection comfort and console each of you.
