A small gathering of family gathered to celebrate the Eucharist on Saturday, December 19, 2020, giving thanks to God for the life of Ann Helen Krause. It was Ann’s desire that her memorial mass be a time of happiness and joy. The music and scripture readings she chose in advance, set the tone for celebration: “When the Saints Come Marching In”; “Be Not Afraid”; “Here I Am, Lord”; and “I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light”! Ann had a deeply curious nature and was a “lover of knowledge”. She spent much time exploring her many interests: faith, her Jewish family background, astronomy, cooking, scripture, ecumenism, animals, and nature. She embraced the innocence and camaraderie of the several dogs who were part of her life over many years. She saw her health struggles all as part of God’s blessings; opportunities to walk more closely with God. As a lover of knowledge, Ann put herself through Wayne State University, becoming a psychiatric social worker for juveniles. However, her most cherished work was as a chaplain, serving at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo as well as a brief time at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe. She had a deep interest in getting to know people, their beliefs, and their struggles. It was in the role as chaplain that Ann uplifted those who were suffering, drawing not only on her own experiences but the wisdom of Scripture. Ann’s hope was that her life would bear witness to scripture, particularly Paul’s writing to the Corinthians 13:4-7: “Love is patient, Love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrong-doing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” To Ann’s family, her nieces, Suzanne Krause, Christina Kromkowski; nephew, Daniel Krause, her sister-in-law; Rosalina Krause and her aunt and uncle; Melvin and Julie Pawlosky as well as her friend, Ralph Hutchison, St. Mary Parish community extends its sympathy. With you, we celebrate Ann’s new life in Christ and pray that you will be comforted and consoled by the faith in the resurrection that Ann professed.
