Family and friends of Richard (Rick) Alan Montcalm gathered to give thanks and praise to God for his life, love and loyal commitment to serving all those who sought his help and guidance. Rick served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany following his graduation from Michigan State University. A man of faith, Rick, along with his wife, Ruth, faithfully attended 7:30am Sunday Mass. He served as a lector, bible study participant and member of the St. Mary Parish Finance Council. Using his analytical skills, Rick helped to guide decisions related to the financial and physical needs of our church. Rick was a passionate educator, teaching math and, following retirement, tutoring students in need of additional instruction. He served as Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance for the Tecumseh, Monroe and Utica Schools. Using his God-given talents, Rick enlivened the service organizations to which he belonged: Kiwanis Club, YMCA of Monroe and the former Monroe County Teachers Credit Union. He co-founded Leadership Monroe and served on the Board of Directors of Direction Credit Union. Rick was an active man, playing racquetball, golf, cards, as well as coaching and refereeing for many years. Rarely did he miss viewing and cheering on his Alma Mater, the Michigan State University Spartans. To Rick’s family: his wife Ruth, his children, Carrie (Jason) Zimmerman and Jon (Megan), his grandchildren: Zoe and Gavin Zimmerman and Josephine Montcalm, his siblings and his mother-in-law: Ruth (Abraham) Baker, we extend our sympathy and the promise of our continuing prayerful support throughout the coming days and weeks. May our Lord comfort and console you with the hope that you will be reunited with Rick in God’s kingdom.
