A joyful celebration of the life of Michael James Yaeger took place on Saturday, December 12, 2020, as his family and friends gathered for the Mass of the Resurrection. Many family members took an active role as lectors, pallbearers, and processional attendants. Family friend Fr. Brian Chabala concelebrated with Fr. David Burgard. Mike was known in the Monroe community through the many hats he wore in serving the Monroe community in which he lived. He learned “the ropes” of managing a business first as an employee and eventually becoming the fourth-generation owner of Yaeger’s Shoes. His strong work ethic was passed on to his five children, Steven (Tina); Michelle (Craig) Joseph; Renee (Tim Beck) Goethe; Yvonne (Todd) Stoner and Gregg (Holly) who along with his beloved wife, Lois, survive him. Mike’s energy, business sense, and drive led to his opening of Red Wing Shoe Stores in four different locations. His activism in community organizations helped to improve life for all who lived in Monroe through his involvement as a member of the Mercy Memorial Hospital Board, his active participation in the Monroe Family YMCA, and the Jaycees. An active member of St. Mary Parish, where he was baptized as an infant, Mike served his faith community as an usher, lector, and Parish Council member for many years. Mike enjoyed life and was ever ready to share a smile or a joke. To all who grieve Mike’s death, the St. Mary Parish community offers the promise of our continued prayerful support. May the peace and consolation of our God comfort you and give you peace in the coming days and months.
