A graduate of St. Mary Grade School and the first graduating class of Monroe Catholic Central, Edward Francis Heil said that “life is a celebration of love”. A veteran of the Marine Corps, Ed was described by his family as “a character” who was a storyteller who also enjoyed singing. Passionate about being on the water, he was an active member of the Monroe Boat Club and enjoyed power boats, skiing, sailing, and fishing. Ed had a devotion to St. Francis of Assisi; and respected all wildlife. He would often spend time in the woods observing and being present to pheasants, ducks, and wild animals. He memorized and often shared this quote from Henry David Thoreau: “I went to the woods to see what it would teach me”. He was a resourceful man. If Ed couldn’t do a task, he would find a way to accomplish his goal. He spent many hours creating many beautiful watercolor paintings which found their place in the homes of friends as well as countless businesses. Ed delighted in his “blended family” where his biological children: Michael, Mark, Teresa and Diane and his stepchildren; Norman and Jodi got along and enjoyed shared time. Every Friday evening children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were invited to Ed and Jackie’s (Ed’s beloved second wife) home for “Chat and Chew”. This shared family time was an opportunity to sit, visit, eat pizza and discuss the past week. St. Mary Parish extends it sympathy and the promise of our continuing prayers to Ed’s family and to his many friends. May Christ, who wept at the death of his friend, Lazarus, console, and comfort you in the coming days and months with His presence and the hope and promise of the resurrection.
