A wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, an educator, a friend are some words that describe Maria Catherine (Cathie) Harrington. A life-long resident of Monroe and graduate of St. Mary Academy, Cathie initially shared her God-given talents with others as an educator, teaching at St. Mary Elementary School for seven years. In more recent years she worked as an event planner at her family’s restaurant, the Sand Bar Grillle. A fulfilled homemaker, Cathie passionately cared for her family; her husband, Geoff, and their cherished children: Olivia, Christiaan, and Jaclyn. Her passion for forming children did not wane as her children grew. Quite recently she authored a children’s book titled: “Charlie”. The story was about a young boy with autism. The plot emphasized the importance of the virtue of kindness, a characteristic that defined Cathie throughout her entire life. Cathie’s kindness was evidenced through her care active participation with the Mrs. Claus Club and the “Ray 4 Hope” initiative. A motto of Tim McGraw’s: “Be humble and kind” was a guiding force in Cathie internalized and lived through her words and actions. For those who mourn Cathie’s absence: her husband, children, parents: Russ and Vickie Cusumano; sister: Jennifer (Steven) Bennett; father and mother-in-law: Geoffrey and Frances Harrington, St. Mary Parish offers its sympathy and the promise of our continued prayer. May the hope of Christ’s resurrection comfort and console each of you, bringing you the peace that only God can give.
